Get cracking at these Boston restaurants for National Lobster Day

Row 34

Whether its soaked in butter and stuffed in a roll or boiled and topped with a spritz of lemon, lobster is without a doubt the king crustacean in New England.  Locals will get a chance to satisfy their seafood cravings when National Lobster Day returns on June 15. Here are a few places around Boston to celebrate the foodie holiday.

Kelly’s Roast Beef

A trip to Revere Beach isn’t complete until you’ve made a stop at Kelly’s Roast Beef. The fan-favorite seafood haven has one of the best lobster rolls in the Bay State, featuring the meat of two 1-pound North Atlantic lobsters topped with diced celery and mayo ($21.95). Kelly’s also offers a surf and turf sandwich, which includes a quarter-pound of roast beef served on a grilled sesame-seed roll paired with a 4-ounce lobster roll and a side of chips ($16.95).

James Hook & Company

Since 1925, this harborside shack has served some of the freshest seafood around. James Hook & Company has a host of live lobster offerings to take home, from your typical New England, by-the-pound fare to behemoths like the $160, 7-pound “Monster” live lobster. If you prefer to dine in, the eatery has a full menu catered to lobster lovers, including lobster salad ($25), lobster mac and cheese ($20) and, of course, lobster rolls ($18.99-$23.99).

Row 34

The popular Fort Point hotspot has been serving up lobster rolls on the regular since opening in 2013. Row 34 offers both the traditional, cold roll with mayo, but the warm buttered variety is definitely the crowd favorite. The later is a combination of local lobster meat and drawn butter, which is then stuffed inside a crispy, buttered roll. Both versions are $32 and come with a side of homemade chips, coleslaw and lemon.

Pauli’s

There are lobster rolls, and then there’s Pauli’s enormous U.S.S. Lobstitution roll. Sold at market price, this gigantic meal is 25 ounces of lobster meat goodness, served with mayo on two grilled sub rolls with a side of Utz chips. Fans of the warm variety can have their rolls tossed in hot butter for an extra $2. If you’re in the mood for a less gut-busting meal, Pauli’s also offers lobster grilled cheese, lobster mac and cheese, lobster subs and avocado lobster salad.

Island Creek Oyster Bar

If you’re looking for something a little different, head to this Kenmore Square favorite. Chef Jeremy Sewall has gained a cult following for his lobster roe noodles ($38). This decadent meal features lobster roe (aka the crustacean’s orange unfertilized eggs) mixed into each strand of the homemade pasta, which gives the noodles a nice lobster flavor and orange color. The dish is also tossed with braised short rib, grilled lobster, oyster mushrooms and pecorino cheese.

Lobster, sushi and bacon? Yes please! UNI puts a seafood spin on the classic sandwich with its lobster BLT makimono ($22). The dish features a mix of lobster meat, bacon, lettuce and tomato topped with brown butter mayo and pickled celery, which is then rolled into rice and served in sliced up portions.

Ostra

This upscale, downtown Mediterranean seafood restaurant has just what you need for a decadent lobster feast. At $76, Ostra’s broiled Maine lobster isn’t cheap, but it does come complete with a 3-pound cooked crustacean, roasted cauliflower and pearl onions, English peas, asaparagus, confit carrots and an herbed butter sauce.

Wahlburgers

The only thing more Boston than lobster is Mark Wahlberg, so its no surprise that his family’s burger joint is getting in on the National Lobster Day action. Wahlburgers is serving up a special Surf N’ Turf Burger, which includes a 1/3 pound ground beef burger, topped with fresh chunks of Maine lobster, white cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato bacon, and lemon chive mayo.
