For this month’s Bike Week, the Halifax Cycling Coalition is asking people to move around the city on two wheels rather than four.
The week, which kicks off Friday, features the Halifax Criterium Bike Race and the free Open Street Party on Sunday.
The inner two lanes of the four streets surrounding the North Common will be closed so people can pedal their bikes and vendors can peddle their food. Bike maintenance, contests, kid’s games, and a police bike rodeo will also be offered.
“It’s a chance to celebrate the community,” said Miia Suokonautio, who is co-ordinating the party. “For people who bike, it’s about celebrating it, and for those who don’t, it’s a chance to learn about it.”
Last year’s Bike Week attracted more than 4,000 cyclists from all over HRM.
