Summer is a great time to take a course, even if you’re not working toward a degree. In addition to accelerated versions of coursework, many colleges have special programs.
Arcadia University will host an Autism Institute involving two July weekends on campus and five weeks of work online. It’s designed both for professionals who work with children with autism disorders and for parents and family members. The course will start by examining the full spectrum of autism disorders, then look at intervention strategies, as well as family and legal issues.
Rider University’s Summer Institute for 21st Century Teachers will meet on campus for three weeks in July. It focuses on the new technologies (blogs, social networking, wikis) and ways to use them in K-12 classrooms. Teachers with and without technological expertise will benefit.
Aspiring writers will want to check out the annual Summer Writers’ Conference at Rutgers Camden June 21 to 30. Published authors will teach workshops on fiction, nonfiction and poetry, and present readings of their own work.
