Get the truck outta town: Boston wins ‘Best Food Truck City’ at Throwdown

The people spoke, and what they had to say comes as no surprise to this Boston newspaper – the Hub is “The Best Food Truck City.”

Sorry, New York City.

New York City food trucks put up a good fight, bringing home five
out of nine titles in the judged categories – but Boston won the
people’s choice for “Best Food Truck City.”

The winners of the first ever Food Truck Throwdown between Boston and New York City Saturday yielded these results:

Best Truck Design: Roxy’s

Best Crew: Wafels and Dinges (NY)

Best Savory Item: Staff Meal

Best Sweet Item: Wafel’s and Dinge’s (NY)

Best Asian Inspired Item: Bon Me

Best Vegetarian: Wafel’s and Dinge’s (NY)

Best Seafood Item: Nuchas (NY)

Best Taco: Fishing Shrimp (NY)

Best Sandwich: Lobsta Love

“It truly was an epic event,” said Sara Rosss, owner of Kickass Cupcakes and creator of Saturday’s Throwdown.

Ross said she is waiting on official numbers from the Greenway, but estimated that somewhere between 14,000 and 18,000 people showed up for the good food truck grub.

Lines in the plaza started at 11:30 a.m., and by 12:30, the plaza was packed, Ross said, adding that the party kept going until 9 p.m.

“(We are) already talking about another Throwdown in the Spring,” Ross said. “(New York) trucks are saying that they would love to come back, although we all would love it if they were able to host one in New York City.”
