For the most part, Vancouver streets should be back to normal for this morning’s commute after many of the arterial roads were closed for nearly a month because of the Olympics.
The Georgia Viaduct has reopened — easing congestion on Pender and Hastings streets — and the Dunsmuir Viaduct will be open tomorrow, said Dale Bracewell, director of Olympic transportation.
The streets around the Convention Centre and Pacific Coliseum have re-opened, but the roads immediately around Vancouver’s Athletes’ Village will remain shut until the Paralympic Games end on March 24.
Terry Fox Way and Abbott Street will also stay closed from Expo to Pacific boulevards throughout much of March, as will Pacific and Expo boulevards between Quebec and Nelson.
“(There’s) still some overall road capacity reduction compared to what we normally have, but with the (bridges) and viaducts, there’s plenty of capacity for people … without necessarily using Expo and Pacific,” said Bracewell.
