Giants tight end Daniel Fells could possibly have his foot amputated as doctors fear that the MRSA he was diagnosed with last week has infected his bone and could travel into his blood, according to NFL.com.

Fells will undergo more operations on his foot in the coming days.

“It is a serious situation that has been taken seriously from the beginning,” said Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon. “We’re all fighting for Daniel.”

The 32-year-old has been hospitalized since last Monday. The Giants took great precautions to prevent the spread of MRSA by deep-cleaning their locker room and facilities, according to ESPN.

“We are working with infectious disease specialists and we have defined protocols that we are following in consultation with the Duke Infection Control Outreach Network and local infectious disease specialists,” Hanlon said, according to ESPN. “Those protocols are being followed carefully.”

Fells last played in the Giants’ win over the Redskins on Sept. 24. Fells became a Giant in 2014 after playing with the Patriots, Broncos and Rams.
