Gillibrand, Schumer urge better background checks

Senators Kristen Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer urged Vice President Joe Biden in a letter to give attention to background check reform in his work with the newly formed Interagency Task Force to Reduce Gun Violence.

In New York City, 85 percent of the guns used in gun crimes are from out-of-state and an estimated 90 percent are illegal.

The senators say that there are no laws that directly address gun trafficking. They plan to introduce two pieces of legislations in the new Congress, the Gun Trafficking Prevention Act and the Fix Gun Checks Act, aiming to remedy that.
