A man authorities believe is Nivelo was caught on video snatching the 5-gallon pail filled with 86 pounds of gold from a truck that was parked on West 48th Street between 5th and 6th avenues.

Last month, police said they believed Nivelo was in Los Angeles. An NYPD spokesman said it was just a matter of following him.

Nivelo awaits extradition, the NYPD said.
