Good deeds could earn Mass, RI, NH residents $200

If you walked down Dartmouth Street Thursday morning, chances are you left $5 richer.

And Doug Flutie — yes, the former NFL quarterback — might have handed it to you.

As part of its “Join Us For Good” campaign, Eastern Bank employees, with the help of Flutie and local celebrities the Boston Yeti and Keytar Bear, handed out $5 bills to passers by in hopes they would take their good fortune as inspiration to spread good deeds.

“The goal is paying it forward. Then that person pays it forward to a person and another person and another person, andall of a sudden we have this entire community that’s building strength and doing good,” said Quincy Miller, Eastern Bank president.

The bank handed out $10,000 in $5 bills throughout the day, but if you missed out there’s still a chance your good deeds could pay off.

Another 500 people will win $200 prizes through the “Selfies for Good” campaign. All you have to do is photograph yourself doing something good and tag your story with the hashtag #JoinUsForGood on Twitter or Instagram, or enter to win online at JoinUsForGood.com/enter for your chance to get a piece of the $100,000 in prizes. Entries will be accepted through April 4 and participants from Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire are eligible.
