Goodbye, Garage. Hi, Phone Booth?

Vancouver’s hockey stadium, known as General Motors Place since it opened in 1995, is to be renamed Rogers Arena, the Canucks announced yesterday.

GM Place signs on either side of the stadium were taken down yesterday afternoon.

The Rogers Arena signs will go up sometime in the next two months.

“We threw some names around,” said Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini.

“But arena was the one that resonated because this is a hockey rink.”

Neither the Canucks, nor Rogers Communications would disclose the dollar amount of the 10-year naming and sponsorship deal.
