With several Apple stores located throughout the city, including one in SoHo, and aMicrosoft flagship store just opening on Fifth Avenue, Google was aiming to compete in the local retail market, Crains reported.

The plan was for theNew York store to be one of its first brick-and-mortar locations, with more stores opening, and selling products that included Chromebookand smartphones that run its Android operating system,Crains reported. But Google apparently hasn’t abandoned its retail ambitions, as it opened a kiosk insidea Londonelectronics store earlier this year.

Before trying to sublease the SoHo space, Google “significantly renovated and restored” the space, according to Crains. Here’s a look at what the Google store may have looked like.
