Google has ditched its plan to open its first-ever retail store in New York City,Crains New Yorkreported Tuesday. The5,442-square-foot space, located at 131 Greene St. in SoHo,wasleased last year,a source told Crains. Google reportedly put$6 million into renovating the store, and is now looking to rent it annually for$2.25 million. The plan was for theNew York store to be one of its first brick-and-mortar locations, with more stores opening, and selling products that included Chromebookand smartphones that run its Android operating system,Crains reported. But Google apparently hasn’t abandoned its retail ambitions, as it opened a kiosk insidea Londonelectronics store earlier this year. Before trying to sublease the SoHo space, Google “significantly renovated and restored” the space,according to Crains. Here’s a look at what the Google store may have looked like.
