Grey Cup tickets selling quickly

Tickets for the Grey Cup are going faster than expected, as the opening day of ticket sales saw a record number of people purchasing.

Once ticket sales were open to the general public yesterday at 2 p.m., more than 12,000 tickets were purchased in just two hours, and in just one day surpassed the 2009 Grey Cup attendance of 46,020.

“The pre-sales were already at 35,000 sold,” said Canadian Football League commissioner Mark Cohon.

“It is remarkable how fast tickets are going.”

“The league is really on the right track. We came out of, what I think, was a tough year in 2009 with a lot of momentum. Our attendance was strong last year, and we have new stadiums being built almost across the country.”

Edmontonions seem to be really rallying around their team and the league is excited about it, Cohon said.

“I think the competition between Calgary and Edmonton is always very strong and Calgary did a great job last year, and I think Edmonton is going to try and show them up so I think it is going to make for a great party here.”
