Groom dies of apparent overdose after his stag

A Surrey man died of an apparent drug overdose shortly after his bachelor party, RCMP said yesterday.

Mounties responded to a call at the Delta Grand Hotel in Kelowna at noon on Sunday.

According to Const. Steve Holmes, officers found the body of a man who was a guest at the hotel. His name was not released.

The 26-year-old was in Kelowna with family and friends to celebrate his upcoming marriage. He was last seen alive by friends at 4:30 a.m. and was discovered dead in his hotel room by friends about six hours later, according to Holmes.

He added there is no evidence of foul play and police are not treating the death as suspicious.

“According to witnesses, there was alcohol and drug consumption, namely cocaine, in the previous evening and in the hours leading up to the man’s demise,” Holmes said.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death was planned for yesterday, but results were not released by press time.
