Most of the Karbani children weren’t even born yet when the planning of the Genesis Centre of Community Wellness started 15 years ago.
But Muhammed Karbani, 15, and his sisters were there yesterday for the groundbreaking ceremony to show their gratitude for having the centre so close to home.
“The northeast now really does have something for everyone,” said Karbani. “We don’t have to go far for anything,”
The Genesis Centre, near the Saddletowne Shopping Centre, will feature a Calgary Public Library, YMCA, swimming pools, indoor and outdoor soccer fields, and a climbing wall.
“It’s a great day for the community,” said Carol Steiner, president of the NE Centre of Community Society.
Steiner said the community centre features a unique social-services facility geared towards the area’s cultural diversity.
