What do you do if you hate New York? Hack New York Magazine’s website, apparently.

New York Magazine’s website crashed early Monday morning. The company had published an article compiling the stories of 35 of the 46 women who accused Bill Cosby of rape or sexual assault Sunday night. The website malfunction, however, was not an attack on the story, but on New York in general, hacker ThreatKing toldThe Daily Dot.

The magazine did not confirm the hack but said it was a technical glitch.

The Daily Dot spoke with a New York Magazine employee who said that “they assumed the site was on the receiving end of a DDoS attack.” The hacker told the blog that his attack was against the people of New York and that he had “not even seen the cover.”

ThreatKing’s New York hatred stemmed from a bad trip.

“I went to new York 2 months ago. It was really bad,” ThreatKing said in a Skype instant message conversatoin with the Daily Dot. “Someone pranked me. Everyone started laughing and shit. The first 10 hours being there. Some African-American tried to prank me with a fake hand gun.”

He continued to say that he wanted to “see people die at [sic] New York” and after seeing pranks go wrong in the city it “got [him] pissed.”

ThreatKing, under the Twitter handle of the hacking group Vikingdom2016, claimed responsibility and gloated about the attack.

The magazine’s website was back up at 11:38 a.m.

The hacker planned to target more websites with “New York” in their title and shared a Twitter list of a few potential targets. The list included the New York Times, New York Daily News, New York Post, New York University and even us, Metro New York.

The location of the group and ThreatKing are unknown. In one tweet he taunted individuals to “come and find him” and his location on Twitter is set to “anime world.” As of Monday afternoon the Twitter account was suspended.
