Halifax police dispute MacLean’s ranking of violent cities

The Halifax Regional Police feel it’s unfair to call Halifax the seventh most violent city in Canada.

A MacLean’s magazine survey released last week about Canada’s most violent cities concluded Halifax was at No. 7, the highest rank for any city east of Winnipeg.

But in a press release issued late last week HRP argues the city core was split up from Halifax County, which came in much lower at 84th place.

The police argued if the city and county had been combined than Halifax would have come in much lower on the list.

According to the survey, Saskatoon is the most dangerous city and Caledon, Ont., is the safest.
