Halifax to again host major security forum

International defence heavyweights will be in town next month for the second annual Halifax International Security forum.

Defence Minister Peter MacKay will host a number of dignitaries including Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Homeland Security and Condoleezza Rice, professor of political science at Stanford University from the U.S.

Ministers and secretaries of defence from Denmark, Mongolia, Spain, U.K., Albania, Slovenia, Serbia are expected to attend. There will be politicians and policy makers from a number of countries including Afghanistan, Romania, and Israel.

The German Marshall Fund of the United States is hosting the three-day forum with the help of the Canadian government.

“Building on the success of the inaugural Halifax International Security Forum, I’m excited for Halifax, Nova Scotia, to once again host the German Marshall Fund and the Forum,” said MacKay, in a release.

“Canada has always been a strong, reliable partner in addressing challenges to international security and Nova Scotia enjoys a tradition of military and academic excellence, so it is fitting that this important Forum be held in Halifax.”

The forum will be held Nov. 5-7 at the Westin Nova Scotian.
