Hall inks deal with Oilers

It was the first day on the job for the Oilers’ first overall pick yesterday as Taylor Hall inked his first NHL contract with the club.

The 18-year-old, Calgary-born left-winger signed a three-year entry-level contract a day before the Oilers’ development camp begins at Clareview Arena.

“It’s an exciting day for me. Obviously signing an NHL contract is a big deal but this is just the first step for me and the Oilers organization,” Hall said at a press conference at Rexall Place yesterday.

“I’m excited to get it done with and to start camp tomorrow.”

General manager Steve Tambellini joined Hall at the press conference with pen and contract in hand. Tambellini said the signing is just the beginning of a new era for both the team and the player.

“It’s a huge moving forward step again that allows us to have a chance to be a great team one day,” Tambellini said.

“This is the beginning. We have a lot of work to do but I do know that we are a team that has a chance to win and this young man is going to be there with us.”
