Twelve hundred Harry Potter fans will flock to Berklee College of Music on March 10 to see the Harry Potter Soundtrack Orchestra’s second-ever show, “The Music of Harry Potter.” The sold-out performance will feature music from the Harry Potter films, with vocals from the Audire Soundtrack Choir. Berklee junior Gabriela Gomez-Estevez, the music director and founder of the group, is double majoring in performance and professional music with a minor in conducting. She founded the orchestra last June out of her love for the series. She explains that many of the members are film scoring majors, which makes them especially interested in the movies’ soundtracks. “I wanted to start it because I’m a Harry Potter fan — I grew up with the books and the movies and I’m also a big fan of the soundtrack,” Gomez-Estevez says.
Evidently plenty of others at Berklee and in Boston are big fans as well. The 40-person ensemble didn’t need to do much marketing for its upcoming show — according to Gomez-Estevez, the Facebook event spread easily through word of mouth. While the March 10 show is sold out, Harry Potter fans can catch live stream on the Berklee website or see the orchestra in person on March 31. Some members of the group will perform at Berklee’s Liberal Arts Symposium, where Patrick Doyle, the composer of the fourth Harry Potter film, will be speaking. The event is free and open to the public begins at 2 p.m at the Red Room at Cafe 939.
