HBO president on Jon Snow: ‘Dead is dead is dead’

HBO president of programming Michael Lombardo forecasted that Game of Thrones will end after its eighth season.

Lombardo was speaking at the Television Critics Association summer press tour when someone asked how long the record-breaking HBO show would run for.

“Obviously we’re shooting season six now, hopefully discussing seven,” he said while also indicating that it was up to the show’s creators. “I think their feeling is we’re looking at two more seasons after six. I’m hoping they’ll change their minds, but that’s what we’re looking at right now.”

Three more seasons can cover a lot of ground in the lengthy series, which is based on a book series that is incomplete itself! In addition to three more seasons however, Lombardo mentioned that he would “be open” to producing a prequel to the series.

When asked if Jon Snow was truly dead, Lombardo went with the line others from the network have parroted.

“Dead is dead is dead. He be dead. Yes. Everything I’ve seen, heard and read, he is dead.”
