Passengers riding the Canada Line will be able to keep on talking on their cellphones even as the train goes underground.
“Telus has invested more than $3 million to provide continuous cellphone service along the tunnels,” said Telus spokesperson Shawn Hall.
“There’s going to be 100 small cellphone towers running along all of the tunnels and they’ll pass service from antenna to antenna as people ride.”
The towers will allow for standard cell service from Waterfront Station to 64th Avenue, where the line goes up to ground level.
“It’s a pretty cool project actually, unique in Canada,” Hall said, adding there are great reasons for having continuous reception.
“One is certainly safety and another would be simple convenience of being able to make a phone call without dropping it while you’re (riding) along,” he said.
