Tuesday’s scheduled pre-trial hearing for Michael McCarthy, the man accused of killing 2-year-old Bella Bond last year, has been postponed until June 9.
McCarthy, of Quincy, faces a first-degree murder charge for allegedly beating the child to death by punching her again and again in the stomach.
He had been scheduled to appear in Suffolk Superior Court Tuesday afternoon.
Police found Bond’s body in a trash bag on the shores of Deer Island on June 25, and for nearly three months labored to identify her. During that time, she had been known as “Baby Doe.”
McCarthy was held without bail in January and has maintained he is innocent.
The search for Bond’s identity was unprecedented in its scope. A digital rendering of her face reached millions online and appeared on thousands of posters and scores of billboards along highways.
Rachelle Bond, the child’s mother, has also been charged with being an accessory after the fact and improper disposal of a body.
