Here’s everything to know about the Pittsburgh Mac Miller vigil.
Mac Miller vigil: location and time
This public Mac Miller vigil will begin at 5:00 p.m. ET tonight in Frick Park (“Beechwood Blvd, Pittsburgh PA, near the blue slide area of the park,” writes Nightfall Records). It will reportedly go until around 10:00 p.m. ET.
Miller’s 2011 debut album was named after Frick Park, also known as Blue Slide Park. Fans have already flocked there with flowers, candles and signs to show their respect ever since news of Miller’s passing broke.
Over 2,700 people from across the country said they’re attending tonight’s vigil.
“We would like to bring the city together in full force for this legendary icon,” the Mac Miller vigil page reads. “Mac deserves to be sent off with an evening of celebrating his life, discussing his struggles, and remembering his stories; most importantly for his iconic work that brought joy into the lives of everybody who listened. We are welcoming all artists to come and paint, create, draw, live tribute art for this event.”
Nightfall Records announced that they will have volunteers at the event to “point people in different directions upon arrival.” They advise: “parking is extremely limited as of right now and we recommend a ride sharing service such as Uber.”
Mac Miller vigil: live stream
One fan going the vigil, Rico Galassi, confirmed to Metro that he will attempt a live stream on his YouTube channel (RicoGalassi). DJ Afterthought (@djafterthought) is also reportedly doing a live stream on Instagram.
Nightfall Records confirmed that they are teaming up with a local media station to provide a live stream of the Mac Miller vigil as well. They encourage fans to keep an eye on the event page for the live stream link and further information.
“This whole thing is so dynamic,” they tell Metro. “We’re doing our best to keep up.”
“Blue Slide Park is a park in Pittsburgh we grew up at,” Miller said during a 2011 MTV interview. “No matter what happens in life, no matter where you go, where you’re off to, what happens with the park, that slide will always be blue. That will always be Blue Slide Park no matter what.”
