Here’s what to expect on LIRR, subways this weekend

There will be several changes on the LIRR's Ronkonkoma Branch and most subway lines this weekend.

Any Long Islander who takes the Ronkonkoma Branch of the Long Island Rail Road and plans to head home in the wee hours of Saturday morning may want to listen up.

Due to the MTA’s Double Track Project, buses will substitute for LIRR trains in both directions between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma from midnight to 8 a.m. Saturday.

The work, which consists of rail inspections, switch replacement and other track work, affects four trains in both directions.

Eastbound trains affected

The trains leaving Penn Station at 12:14, 1:21, 2:53 and 4:43 a.m. will terminate at Farmingdale. Connecting buses to Pinelawn, Wyandanch, Deer Park, Brentwood, Central Islip and Ronkonkoma will depart 10 minutes after arriving.

Westbound trains affected

Local and express buses will substitute for the four Penn Station-bound trains normally originating at Ronkonkoma between midnight and 8 a.m. The buses will leave at 11:55 and 11:57 p.m. and 1:21, 1:23, 2:55, 2:57, 4:46 and 4:48 a.m., arriving in Farmingdale 10 minutes before departure.

The local buses will stop at Central Islip, Brentwood, Deer Park, Wyandanch, Pinelawn and Farmingdale.

The MTA said that passengers should plan to add up to 50 minutes of additional travel time during the eight-hour stretch. The buses will not affect local traffic, the agency added.

The LIRR’s Double Track Project aims to improve service and reliability on the Ronkonkoma line, including service to Long Island MacArthur Airport and “dramatically” reduce delays.
