The sky over the East River will once again shine bright this year as Macy’s gets ready to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its fireworks show celebrating the nation’s birthday.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and Macy’s announced Friday that on July 4 the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks will — for the third year in a row — be held over the East River, offering views along the Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn waterfronts.

“With the fireworks lighting up the East River for the third year in a row, millions of New Yorkers will again be able to take part in Macy’s electrifying July 4th display,” de Blasio said. “The fireworks will ignite the sky — and the local economy — from Queens to Brooklyn to Manhattan, as we celebrate the nation’s 240th birthday.”

The show — which before 2014 was held over the Hudson River and angered city residents — will be positioned in midtown Manhattan on four barges located between 23rd and 37th streets; and on one double-barge under the Brooklyn Bridge in the Seaport district.

This year marks Macy’s 40th anniversary of putting on the Fourth of July show — which is considered the country’s largest Independence Day pyrotechnic display.

“As the nation’s premiere Independence Day pyrotechnic display, the 40th anniversary of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks promises to be one for the record books,” said Amy Kule, Executive Producer of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks.

The 25-minute show is scheduled to begin at about 9:25 p.m. and people watching the show along the shoreline are encouraged to tune into 1010 WINS-AM to hear the musical score to which the show is choreographed.
