It’s Ash Wednesday — and already there is a blessing: Alternate side of the street regulations are suspended in observance of the start of Lent, the Western Christian lead-up to Easter Sunday on April 5.

You still have go feed the meters and follow other parking regulations. Alternate side rules are also suspended Thursday, February 19 for the Asian Lunar New Year.

For Catholics, ashes will be distributed at St. Patrick’s Cathedral from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Confessions will also be taken and Masses will be said in the morning at 7, 7:30, and 8; and in the afternoon at 12, 12:30, 1, 5:30, and 6:30.

In the Financial District, the Episcopalian Trinity Church and St. Paul’s Chapel, the imposition of ashes will take place all day, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For Eastern Orthodox Christians, Lent is Monday and Easter is Sunday, April 12.
