High Bridge park to be restored

Mayor Michael Bloomberg broke ground on Friday on the $61 million High Bridge park restoration spanning the Harlem River, connecting Highbridge in the Bronx with Washington Heights in Manhattan.

The project is intended to make the park more accessible and safe, bringing it up to modern standards while still preserving the history and restoring the original architectural details of the oldest remaining bridge in New York City. It will reopen the bridge to pedestrians and cyclists for the first time since 1970.
