All was quiet at Cole Harbour High School and Auburn Drive High School Tuesday, according to Doug Hadley of the Halifax Regional School Board.
“It was explained to me that people went about their business,” Hadley said.
Police arrested three teenagers Monday at Cole Harbour High following a series of fights at the school after someone pulled the fire alarm. On Friday at Auburn Drive, 14 people were arrested after several fights occurred on the school grounds, again after a fire alarm was pulled.
Hadley estimated 12 suspensions will be handed out to students at each of the schools because of the incidents, but nothing has been finalized.
On Monday, Auburn students and staff were given the day off. Hadley said there was no additional police presence at either school yesterday, but two extra teachers were called in to patrol the hallways.
Two other Halifax area schools were anything but quiet yesterday. Around 1:10 p.m. Hadley said someone pulled the fire alarm at the P-9 Ross Road School in Westphal.
“There was a fight at the lunch hour between two students, they don’t know if it was related to that or not,” Hadley said.
Two fire alarms also rang through Graham Creighton Junior High School at 11:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m., he said.
“We believe people are doing this because they believe misguidedly that it will give them either time off of school or if they’re looking to cause an issue that they’ll have an opportunity to do that,” Hadley said.
