If you needed an excuse to stay in on Sunday, winds as high and 60 mph and subzero wind chills should do the trick.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind alert through 2 p.m. Sunday. The NYC Office of Emergency Management has issued a cold alert for below-freezing temperatures through Monday.

Sunday’s high is expected to be 17 degrees, with a low of 3 degrees, and wind chills as low as -5 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Sunday night will be as cold as 2 degrees, with wind chills as low as -20 degrees.

Monday is expected to be sunny, cold and windy, with a high of 18 degrees and wind chills as cold as -20 degrees.

Snow is a possibility on Tuesday and Wednesday, and temperatures are expected to stay in the single digits and teens.

Authorities are warning New Yorkers to limit their time outdoors on Sunday. For those who do venture out, dress in layers, and be mindful of black ice. Anyone who loses heat or hot water should call 311, and neighbors should check in on the elderly.
