Former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton presented her economic plan in a talk Monday morning at the New School in New York City, emphasizing the need for fair wages and focusing on economic impacts that will have long-term growth to help working families.

“If you do your part, you will reap the rewards,” Clinton said to cheers and applause. “We won’t leave anyone behind.”

Clinton entered the presidential race this spring, setting up her headquarters in Brooklyn Heights. She gave her first campaign speech in June on Roosevelt Island.

“Over the past few months I’ve heard Americans’ concerns about an economy that’s still not delivering for them, it’s stacked for those at the top,” Clinton said. “I believe we have to build a growth and fairness economy; you can’t have one without the other.”

Clinton said increasing wages is pivotal for helping hard-working Americans to achieve a middle-class life.

“That will be my mission from the first day I’m the president to the last,” Clinton said.

Other key pledges included raising the minimum wage, supporting small business, universal pre-K,refinancing student debt, support for women in the workforce and Wall Street reforms.
