Hoax alert: Will Smith is not tweeting about one last ‘Fresh Prince’ episode

Dear people of the Internet:

This might come as a bit of a surprise, but not everything that you read on the Internet is real. I know, right?

Like the girl who set herself on fire while twerking, for example. Or the guy who feuded with Diane in 7A via handwritten notes, for another example. Or the waitress who received a homophobic non-tip. Or all the times Bill Cosby died. Shall we go on?

If you fell for all of these without so much of a skeptical wrinkle of your forehead, then it stands to reason you might be one of the 135,900 plus people who retweeted a tweet by one @FreshPrinceWill, allegedly the twitter account of Will Smith (he famously does not use Twitter) who allegedly direct messaged NBC to try and film one last episode of “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” in tribute of the passing of James Avery a.k.a. Uncle Phil.

Will Smith did not DM NBC. Will Smith does not have a Twitter account. Will Smith does not want to film any more episodes of “Fresh Prince.” (Well, maybe he does, but he hasn’t said anything about it — on Twitter or otherwise.)

So, if you RT-ed the above tweet, you fell for the first big Internet hoax of 2014. Let the games begin.
