Hockey sorrow not drowned: Bar owner

The Flames may be down 2-0 in their hockey series but Calgary pubs and bars are down too, according to a local bar owner.

“It’s not super. The mood has been mellow and not many people are coming out. When the Flames aren’t winning, people don’t want to drink all night. It’s another disappointment,” What About Bob’s owner and manager Bob Mariani said.

Mariani said the turnout has nothing to do with the economy, it’s simply because the Flames are down two games.

“People come out when the team is winning, and then they jump on the bandwagon. But everyone is kind of expecting the Flames to lose, and they are.”

Mariani only expects about 40 people out when the Flames host Chicago tonight.

It seems with the team’s poor start to the playoffs, fans aren’t fired up about the Flames fortunes.

Fan Joshua Charger admits he hasn’t been in the mood to celebrate with friends.

“I rather just watch it at home than spend money. Red Mile doesn’t exist when the Flames are losing anyways,” he said.
