Holiday design shows kick into high gear

Style Revolution

This weekend make sure to get yourself over to the Style Revolution show at the Design Exchange. This event showcases more than 35 independent clothing and accessory designers chosen from the city’s growing talent pool.

Expect well-constructed and unusual wearables you won’t find in any mall — great for those who want to make a memorable fashion statement, while supporting homegrown stylistas. Scout out hats by Park, saucy tees by Say Whhhat?, Snoflake’s increasingly cool separates, plus chic jewelry designs by Brave Butterfly (25 per cent off this weekend only), DeeDee Bird and Kim Drosdick.

There will also be a juried competition, featuring purse designs by Ryerson fashion students; the designs will then be sold in a silent auction. Admission is $5, which enters attendees into draws for various door prizes.

When: Sat. 11a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sun. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Where: The Design Exchange, 234 Bay St. at Wellington.

Visions of sugarplums

For more traditional offerings this weekend, visit the 24th edition of the always lovely Sugar Plum Fair at Casa Loma.

This popular event, which benefits the National Ballet School consistently delivers a medley of over 40 higher-end vendors (including some especially gorgeous vintage-inspired jewelry by Bijoux Fantasy), superb edibles and a festive vibe in Toronto’s mid-town castle.

There are also children’s activity areas and the opportunity to watch a Nutcracker ballet rehearsal, plus a seated afternoon tea service.

When: Sat. 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sun., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cost: General admission is $10. It’s $8 for seniors and students, and the seated afternoon tea service is $35 (including admission).

Merry moose

From today until Saturday, try to get down to the Moose Show at the CBC Building, where you’ll discover work by 60 artisans. This juried show and sale presents a top opportunity to scoop some handcrafted holiday gifts.

Lots of jewelry, ceramics, glass and wearables as well as original artwork all priced reasonably. Better still, proceeds benefit the art and life skills programs offered to the homeless at St. Christopher’s House.

When: Today and tomorrow, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sat., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: Barbara Frum Atrium and Lobby in the Canadian Broadcasting Centre, 250 Front St. W., (corner of Front and John Streets)
