Boston police have issued a community alert after a spree of home break-ins this week in the West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain and Roslindale neighborhoods of the city.

Police issued the alert Thursday; the most recent break-in occurred Wednesday evening.

The spree started Tuesday afternoon. Officers were called to a home on Edgemere Road just before 1 p.m. The homeowner said his home had been broken into and that some of his property had been stolen. Police said the burglar or burglars entered through a window.

Since then, four other homes have been burglarized. The two in Jamaica Plain occurred on Jamaica Street and Mozart Street. Another burglary was reported in West Roxbury, and one more in Roslindale.

In four of the five burglaries, police said the burglar or burglars got in through a window.

Police are investigating.
