Home for Little Wanderers moving from Jamaica Plain

The Home for Little Wanderers announced it will be moving its Jamaica Plain location to a homestead in Walpole.

According to reports, the program plans to sell the Knight’s Children Center property in JP and house the program in a 166-acre Longview Farm property outside the city.

Pam Herbst, vice president and head of the organization’s real estate committee said in a statement that the move would realize $1 million in savings annually for the treatment center by consolidating the program onto its Walpole campus.

The Jamaica Plain campus hosts a year-round residential and day school treatment program for boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 13 with emotional, behavioral, educational and psychiatric needs, according to the program’s website.

The Home plans to build a special education school in Walpole and four new residences, according to reports form the State House News Service.

According to The Home, it is the largest provider of mental health services in Boston public schools and operates 15 other Boston-based programs. The Knight Center is located on 220,000 square feet of land between the Jamaica Way and South Huntington Avenue.
