If you use a computer running on the Windows operating system and you have Apple’s QuickTime installed on your machine, you need to remove it right now.

On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued a statement urging people to remove the Apple QuickTime software that is installed on Windows computers due to security vulnerabilities.

According to the statement, the alert does not apply to Mac computers.

QuickTime is a popular software package that enables users to play audio and video files on their computers using Apple technology.

According to Trend Micro, Apple has decided to no longer provide security updates for QuickTime for Windows, which leaves the software open to security attacks and viruses.

Recent security flaws have been discovered that could allow cyber criminals to hack into their computers if certain malware applications are installed or if users visit malicious webpages.

Homeland Security urges anyone using QuickTime for Windows to uninstall it as soon as possible.
