A pipe burst at a major Boston-area hotel left approximately 250 people evacuated from their rooms as officials worked to repair the building.

Authorities said to WCVB that the busted pipe flooded an electrical room at the Newton Crowne Plaza with four feet of water on Monday, worrying firefighters that the hotel may lose power and leave guests stranded on the upper floors.

“It’s like Niagara Falls down there,” one worker said to WCVB.

The displaced guests were evacuated to a hotel ballroom, WCVB added, also stating that the pipe burst because of the cold weather.

Fire officials told WHDH that the leak was repaired quickly, but the situation was still dangerous as water was being pumped out, leading authorities to cut power to the building.

During the past weekend, Boston officials told WHDH in a related article that they had received more than 150 pipe-related calls.
