HST won’t take a big bite of city budget, audit finds

HST will have little impact on the city budget, according to a treasurer’s report to the city’s audit, budget and finance committee.

Starting July 1, the city is going to have to pay eight per cent more for fuel, consulting and property, but that spending increase will be neutralized by rebates to maintenance and installation services and telecommunication costs.

Recreational fees for children 14 years and under are not subject to the HST.

The city will absorb the increase on admission fees to public skating arena, swimming pools, athletic centres, museums, and creative art centres for the remainder of 2010.

However, program fees will increase by the additional eight per cent after July 1.
