After 17 years, Hugh Jackman is saying goodbye to Wolverine.

The actor announced on Instagram and “Dr. Oz” that he is retiring from X-Men films after “Wolverine 3.”

He posted a photograph on Instagram in March that hinted “Wolverine 3” would be his final bow as the X-Men character by captioning a photo of his hand with the claws: “WOLVERINE …ONE LAST TIME. HJ.”

On Thursday, Jackman made an official announcement and said on “Dr. Oz” of the third film, “This will be my last one,” reports ComicBookMovie.com. “It is my last time. It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And let’s be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it. I kind of have in my head what we’re going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out.”

“Wolverine 3” comes out in 2017, so fans have some time to prepare themselves for their loss. ComicBookMovie.com points out that Jackman has not been spotted on the set of “X-Men Apocalypse,” so he may not appear in the film.
