Huskies announce first set of recruits for upcoming season

The Saint Mary’s Huskies have announced their first group of recruits for the 2010 football season.

Highlighting the group is defensive tackle Lincoln Bryan, a six-foot-two 310-pounder who had 20 tackles in six games with the Toronto Varsity Blues as a freshman in 2008.

“He could be an impact guy right away,” said head coach Steve Sumarah, who singled out Bryan as his key recruit.

Sumarah also said six-foot-three, 275-pound Nick Arment and six-foot-six, 315-pound Sean Swanney “are two big-body guys who will give us more depth on the offensive line.”

He added that versatile receiver/punt returner/quarterback Micah Brown from Tampa, Fla., “could be the wildcard of the group” because he’s “a multi-dimensional guy.”

Linebacker Cody Lee, a Sir John A Macdonald product; defensive back Blair Ryan, a Queen Elizabeth product; running back Kevin Walsh, a transfer from the York Lions; and receiver Cameron Stewart of Ottawa are the other recruits.

Sumarah added that running back Tristan Jones has returned to Edmonton and is doing correspondence courses while working. He said he would “be surprised if he is back.” Jones came to the Huskies with a sensational junior resumé but struggled with injuries as a freshman last season.
