Hyde inquiry to resume next week

The inquiry into the death of Howard Hyde is taking a week off, with testimony resuming Tuesday, Aug. 4.

For the last three weeks, Judge Anne Derrick has been presiding over the inquiry that is looking into the death of Hyde, a 45-year-old who was Tasered by Halifax Regional Police and died 30 hours later.

Hyde’s death came after he was arrested and charged with assaulting his common-law wife on Nov. 22, 2007. Hyde suffered from schizophrenia and was off his medication when the incident took place.

During Friday’s testimony, HRP Staff Sgt. Sean Auld denied a claim by Hyde family lawyer Kevin MacDonald that he pressured hospital staff to release Hyde after he was Tasered multiple times by police
