Cambridge Police closed down a portion of Massachusetts Avenue on Monday morning after reports of a grenade being found near Porter Square.
According to police reports, just past 9 a.m. the suspicious device was reportedly found near Mass Ave. and Linnaean Street. That section of the street was closed to pedestrians and vehicles.
The grenade was “not a threat to the public” and was not live, according to a spokesman from the Cambridge Police Department.
It was a real grenade but contained no powder or detonator, a spokesman said.
Mass Ave. has since been re-opened.
