More than 400 inmates at the local medium-security penitentiary in Springhill have been locked down after ammunition was found in the main parking lot outside the institution’s perimeter fence.
Shannon Oickle, chief administration and material management, confirmed the institution has been in lockdown since Friday after a correctional staff member found several live rounds of ammunition.
Springhill Institution is a medium-security federal penitentiary that houses 436 male offenders.
