When it comes to the real estate adage “location, location, location,” a condominium set near Bolton Valley mountain resort in Bolton, Vermont scores high points.
“It’s in a great spot, a ski trail runs right by the condominium’s bedroom window,” says real estate agent Rich Gardner. “You can’t ski out, but you can definitely ski home. There are lots of trails for snowshoeing and year round hiking, too. It’s a really cute place for people who want to enjoy the snow at weekends or hiking in the off-season.”
Cute means small, sure, but this condo has everything apied-à-terreneeds and is “ priced in the happy investment range,” says Gardner. After prices plummeted during the recession, second homes are now seeing some regain in value, but can still be a good investment. However, the real investment is in enjoying recreation time.
“This place is ideal for a couple who wants a weekend getaway, but it easily sleeps more. It would work for some friends to go in on together and do their own time-share. Friends usually rent, but making an investment like this can make sense.”
Bolton is a three-plus hour drive from Boston and around 24 miles from Burlington International Airport. Bolton Valley resort is smaller than nearby Stowe, making for less hassle during peak season. “It gets busy, but not like Stowe, not real, real busy. It’s more personal. Bolton Valley is where all the locals learned to ski. It’s a great spot for night skiing, too,” he says.
Some folks who live in Bolton don’t even wait for resorts to open up — as soon as they see a white cap on the mountain they hike up, find some snow and ski down as far as they can.
“This is definitely the way people used to ski years ago,” says Gardner. “It’s a long walk up, and a short ride down.”
