Is anything better than food out of a truck?

Food trucks are finally parked on City Hall Plaza.

The three winners of Boston’s first ever Food Truck Challenge pulled next to City Hall on Monday and had their first large lunch rush yesterday.

“The weather wasn’t so great [Monday] but we still had a lot of enthusiasm,” said Patrick Lynch, who co-owns a Vietnamese sandwich truck called Bon Me. “We’re excited to be here.”

Momogoose, which offers Asian cuisine, and the vegetarian hot spot, Clover, also won the contest launched last year. The winners received six months’ free rent, some technical advice from the city, permitting guidance and assistance applying for low-interest loans.

State Street Bank employee Kerry Fitzgerald hit Momogoose just before yesterday’s lunch rush.

“I work on a trading floor so we don’t really take lunch,” she said. “So it’s nice to be able to go out here and grab this.”

The trucks are in the plaza as part of a pilot program that ends Oct. 28 and the City Council is fine tuning an ordinance to pave the way for more food trucks to be licensed.

“The question becomes do we want to do a new food truck challenge in September?” said Director of Food Initiatives Edith Murnane. “This was a good way to work through all of the things that were going to come up. It’s a great pilot, and food trucks should be coming to the city streets soon.”
