The Eagles have, pretty much, a completely new secondary (save for Malcolm Jenkins) as the 2015 season approaches.

And their linebacking corps wereboosted by the addition of Kiko Alonso, Brad Jones and new draftee Jordan Hicks this offseason.

But the defensive line is the same as it was last year, with the exception of Trent Cole’s departure.

And that consistency is a good thing.

“The starters are making big steps in the third year in the system,” Eagles defensive coordinator Billy Davis said, noting that the D-line truly is wearing out the sleds in their positional drills in training camp.” I am anxious to see them Sunday against the Colts .”

Sunday, of course, is a big marking stick in the Eagles trek to prepare for the season, as they will see live competition for the first time and face an opposition with no restrictions.

Fletcher Cox, Vinny Curry and Cedric Thornton return after each posted career years on the defensive line — a unit that (combined with the rest of the defense) collected 49 sacks, second most in the NFL in 2014.

And even without adding anyone this offseason, and losing Cole to the Colts, the line could be even better in 2015, as Taylor Hart enters his second NFL campaign as a completely revitalized player.

“Taylor has really reshaped his body,” Davis said.”He is a solid rundefender, he’s got enough of a pass rush where he kind of sneaks up on you.”

With all their speed and technique at defensive end, don’t forget the big stopgap in the middle Bennie Logan.

“Bennie’s is a big part of our defense,” Davis said.”He’s a steady payer. From a nose guard position froma3-4 you are really looking for a stoutrun-defender. But the bonus is when they can also be a pass rusher.”
