The meteoric rise of Pedro Espada, Jr. may be coming to an end as swiftly as his ascension from no-name Bronx pol to state Senate majority leader.
Federal agents raided the government-funded Bronx health clinic he runs yesterday, after Attorney General Andrew Cuomo filed a civil suit against Espada claiming he took $14 million from it.
“I would bet you we have a criminal indictment before long,” said Gerald Benjamin, political scientist at SUNY New Paltz, of Espada.
State Sen. Eric Schneiderman called on Espada yesterday to step down as majority leader. Espada has denied wrongdoing.
