Is Luke Evans in Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s ‘Fast And Furious’ spin-off?

Luke Evans as Owen Shaw

While all might not be quite so rosy behind the scenes with the Fast And Furious franchise, the last installment to the series actually brought all the gang closer together. Not only did “Furious 7’s” villain Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) work in tandem with the rest of the gang, but his brother, and “Fast & Furious 6’s” bad guy, Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) also assisted, too.

Following “The Fate Of The Furious’s” $1.2 billion haul at the box office the decision has been made to expand the universe even further with Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson being given their very own spin-off. On Tuesday I had the opportunity to sit down and talk to Luke Evans about his turn in “Professor Marston And The Wonder Women”, which tells the origin stories of the beloved “Wonder Woman” comic book.

At the end of our discussion I asked Luke Evans whether he will be involved in the proposed Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw spin-off. And while he wouldn’t actually say yes or no, his reaction heavily suggested he will be, as he responded, “Maybe,” before then producing a knowing smiling.

Evans then went on to give a good reason why he would be very interested in returning, stating that he’d love to work opposite Helen Mirren, who played the matriarch of the Shaw family in “The Fate Of The Furious.”

“Who knows. I mean I didn’t know they were talking about a spin-off, I didn’t know that was common knowledge,” Evans continued. “Who knows. I’d happily play him again, especially having Mummy Mirren in the fold. That would be quite brilliant.”

The revelation that a Hobbs/Shaw spin-off will be released on July 26, 2019, caused some division in the ranks, as Tyrese Gibson took to Instagram to blame Dwayne Johnson for pushing “Fast & Furious 9’s” release date back to April 10, 2020. Meanwhile, “Fast & Furious” fans are just ecstatic that they’ll get two installments in the space of a year.

In the meantime, make sure to check out the riveting “Professor Marston And The Wonder Women,” which is released into cinemas on October 13.
