Is ‘The Big Bang Theory’ over?

Are you a Penny? A Sheldon? A Leonard? Maybe you have vague recollection of sitting hungover on a friend or summer fling’s couch washing the vodka-infused pain wash off as you binge watched random episodes of ‘The Big Bang Theory.’ Maybe you’ve been a devoted fan of the show since 2007, which was, gasp, ten crazy years ago.

Either way, tune in to this news about pretty much one of the best comedy series ever. The writing is sharp, the actors amazing and the plot lines are always captivating, but that doesn’t seem like enough to save the show. Co-creator of the series Chuck Lorre has hinted to The Hollywood Reporter the end may very be upon us. Ah, please say it ain’t so! “We never really figured to be at year 11, let alone what’s going to happen after 12. One could easily presume that would be the end of the series, but I’m just amazed we’re here,” Lorre said. The statement was made during the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour on Tuesday after presenting spinoff show, called ‘Young Sheldon.’

The spinoff, which looks at young Sheldon Cooper in 1989 is narrated by Jim Parsons (and created by Lorre along with Steven Molaro) will kick off with season 1, episode 1 on September 25th, 2017.

Given the show’s massive success and fanatic following, CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl stated she wants the network to keep the show for as long as it possibly can manage. In fact, The Hollywood Reporter says her comment on keeping the show on air was: “As long as we can go ― 20 years. I hope to have it as long as we can.”

And it doesn’t take Sheldon’s 187 IQ to agree with that brilliant sentiment. Here’s to keeping our fingers and toes crossed the show has a longer run!
