Is this gender-fluid model fashion’s new superstar?

Fashion Week newbie Seth Atwell models both men’s and women’s clothes — and he’s making a splash. The 6’1″, raven-haired, 21-year-old Toronto nativehas broken into some pretty big shows, during just his second season (hello, Hood by Air).

We met Seth at the launch of State — a new agency devoted to promoting diverse, role-model-worthy personalities — and asked him about his double modeling life.

You model both menswear and womenswear — how did you end up doing both?

Ever since I first started, this is what I planned on. From the beginning, I’ve wanted to model as both a man and a woman. I can express both identities in many ways —whatever the client wants me to be, I can be.

How did you break into Fashion Week?

I was here for an audition in April for a movie, and I was sitting in on open calls when I met with an agency and they hired me on the spot.

What have been the highlights so far?

This season I walked for Hood By Air —and I really loved the VFiles spring/summer show.

What are you going to do once Fashion Week is over?

I really want to start looking at volunteering opportunities at animal shelters in the city. It’s something that I’ve have always wanted to do, and after Fashion Week I’ll have a bit of time to do it.
